Gary Powell Nash

Gary Powell Nash (b. 1964), a native of Flint, Michigan, has composed works for orchestra, band and wind ensemble, choir, art song, acoustic works and many instrumental chamber compositions. Using his environment and education as resources for his music, Nash’s compositions are influenced by Western classical music, jazz, blues, spirituals, and ragtime. In pursuance of unique and exotic subject matter for his music, Gary Powell Nash has created compositions that have been performed in all major regions of the United States and abroad in Canada, Italy, Philippines, Spain, Taiwan, and UK. Furthermore, Nash’s works have received grants and awards from respected foundations and establishments such as Fulbright and Carnegie Hall. Currently, he holds the positions of Professor of Music Theory and Conductor for the Jazz Ensemble at Fisk University.
